EASTBOUND I-10 BRIDGE PILE REPAIR UNDERWAY
Crews are working to correct a problem with a damaged pile on the east end of the eastbound I-10 bridge over Escambia Bay. The repairs call for driving three new steel piles, which will be filled with concrete then topped with a panel from which a single new concrete pile will rise and attach to the bottom of the bridge. After completion, the damaged pile will be removed. The driving of the three steel piles will take place from Friday (June 20) to Monday (June 23) during daylight hours. The entire repair effort is expected to last approximately 30 days, with work taking place as weather permits.
Traffic will continue to be restricted to two lanes approaching the east end of the bridge, with the speed limit reduced to 55 miles-per-hour through the work area. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit and to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
Motorists may wish to consider alternate routes to avoid delays. More information and a map of alternate routes are available on this project Web site.
